Hi, I’m Cherlyn (rhymes with Merlin)

So nice to e-meet you!

I’m a documentary wedding photographer based in the San Francisco Bay Area, and I love collaborating closely with planners and creative teams to create thoughtful, seamless wedding days. I photograph weddings in a photo-journalistic way, using both digital and film whenever possible. I find the most joy in capturing candids.

I’m most inspired by those quiet moments of togetherness, when a room is full of loved ones and community, all gathered to support and celebrate the couple. That sense of warmth and connection is what guides the way I photograph every wedding.

My Approach

I photograph weddings as they unfold, with a calm, observant presence and very little interruption. My work is rooted in documentary storytelling, shaped with a loose editorial eye, so moments feel natural, intentional, and never forced.

I focus on presence, connection, and emotional nuance, paying close attention to the relationships, rhythms, and in-between moments that make each celebration unique. Whether the day feels like a big joyful gathering or an intimate dinner party, my goal is always the same: to document it honestly and thoughtfully.

My signature coverage blends digital and film photography, allowing me to move fluidly throughout the day while creating a layered, cohesive visual story.

I care a lot about who I work with, and I think that goes both ways. I've found that the couples and planners I connect with most tend to share similar values. People who care about others, who are thoughtful about the world around them, and who believe everyone is welcome and worth celebrating. If that resonates, we'll probably get along great.

My base collections works really well for most weddings and is built around the natural flow of the day so there's plenty of room to breathe and let things unfold.

Coverage Philosophy

For 2026, I’m moving toward a more flexible approach to coverage rather than strict hourly blocks. This allows me to document the day more fully and naturally, without feeling rushed, especially when working within a planner-built timeline.

Second Photographer

I typically document weddings solo, which supports my unobtrusive, observational style and allows me to move seamlessly throughout the day.

For larger guest counts, multi-location days, or more complex timelines, I’m always happy to recommend adding a second photographer when it makes sense for complete coverage.

Reflections on the Experience

My wife and I hired Cherlyn for engagement and wedding photos, and we both agree that it was the best wedding decision we made. Neither of us is naturally the most comfortable having our photo taken, but Cherlyn immediately made us feel at ease in our engagement session, and the photos came out so beautiful. My wife also surprised me with a book of boudoir photos that Cherlyn took as a wedding gift, and they are breathtaking. After our wedding, Cherlyn sent us a sneak peek the very next day, and we were in tears looking through the photos. We truly never imagined that we would have such beautiful photos of the two of us, so we have been just blown away by Cherlyn's work. We can't wait to get the full gallery.
